Why the heck am I in Rapid City, South Dakota?, you may ask. Valid question. A friend of mine from acupuncture school, Drea Miller, owns a clinic with her squeeze, Brian Broussard, in Rapid City. Drea and Brian just had a little bitty, so Drea is on maternity leave right now and I’m filling in for her.
Big Sun Acupuncture, Drea’s clinic, focuses on pain relief and improving quality of life for a predominantly military and veteran population. I’ve had a great time here, running 2 rooms at a time with a half hour of overlap between patients.
We’ve treated a lot of pain patients in the past 2 weeks. It’s so cool to use Master Tung points on people in a great deal of lower back, upper back, neck, and shoulder pain who then stand up straight after a treatment with a smile on their faces, improved range of motion, and less or no pain. I’ve also had the good fortune to be here long enough to see people come back for additional treatment and hear their stories about how the pain was gone for many days, how they were able to eliminate or reduce their pharmaceutical dependency.
I’ve gotten to use the auricular trauma protocol for PTSD patients and see the nearly immediate relief and peace spread over their faces and bodies. I’ve heard people’s stories about how they are certain that without Big Sun Acupuncture they would either be dead or unable to move.
It’s been a beautiful experience and I’m grateful Drea gave me the opportunity to work with her clinic.
