Acne is a dermatological problem that may or may not be an allergic response (depends – lots of types of acne). Acne can develop on the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and/or back. It can range from mild to severe, can last for months, years, or recur chronically.
Mild acne is generally white heads and black heads, but these can develop into an infected pore/pimple. If you are visiting this site and English isn’t your first language, you might also see pimples referred to as “zits.” Severe acne is many, many pimples/zits that cover large areas of skin. They may even develop into large cystic lesions – pimples that are large and deep.
These lesions can cause scarring on the skin (if popped) or leave large bumps under the skin (if not popped). This can cause a lot of low self-esteem and even depression, since our face and skin are our interfaces to the world. You will need to treat these conditions, as well as any underlying causes you find, along with acne.

Point Discussion
You’ll notice quite a few Earth related points in this set – Si Ma San is on the Stomach channel, there are 3 specific Stomach points, and the Xia San Huang set is on the Spleen channel. Earth is the mother of Metal/Lung, so treating the mother also helps the child. Stomach 36 is the He Sea and Lower He Sea of the Stomach channel and Stomach 37 is the He Sea of the Large Intestine. The Large Intestine helps get rid of toxins, but also has a great Lung effect because it is the coupled organ.
You also see a lot of Liver points here. Liver expresses on the left, so that’s why the Liver points are on that side. This isn’t a hard core thing – you can switch sides if you need to. The Liver points cool the body and detoxify. Since part of acne is a blood heat manifestation, this helps greatly. This also helps take toxins out of the body. You could even add the NADA points on the ear to help detox. As a matter of fact, I love the NADA protocol because it also adds the Shen Men and Autonomic points which further calm the mind and address the 3 major organs of detoxification (Lung, Kidney, Liver).
