Yeast infections are a very common reason for vaginal itching, burning, and discharge. Yeast infections can occur in anyone and on many parts of the body, but are far more common in women. Some contributing factors are changes in hormones, elevated blood sugars, and poor immune response. People in these situations are especially vulnerable to them:
Post-menopause
Pregnancy
Menstruation
Presence of sperm in the vaginal tract
Birth control medications
Weakened immune system Cancer, cancer treatments, post-surgical patients, AIDS patients, and people who are on long courses of antibiotics and/or steroids are vulnerable. Women who had chronic acne and were on acne medications early in life are also susceptible. Messes with the gut flora and can also come with candida.

It's not enough just to poke holes in people. To prevent recurrences, also encourage them to decrease intake of sugars and products containing yeast. Have them work to increase the immune system with acupuncture, herbs, and qigong, and take good quality probiotics every day.
